Acclaimed actor Manoj Bajpayee is currently in the spotlight for his upcoming film Governor. According to the actor, the film explores an important chapter in India’s economic history and is something that every generation should watch and understand.
During a promotional interaction with IANS, Bajpayee explained why the film can serve as a valuable learning experience for young audiences. He also spoke about his preparation, research, and the larger message behind the story.
Speaking to IANS, Manoj Bajpayee said, “The India that today’s youth see was not always the way it is now. There was a time when the country faced extremely challenging economic conditions. The conveniences people enjoy today, the choices available in the market, and the lifestyle changes we witness are the result of a long process of major economic decisions and reforms. The younger generation should understand how the country emerged from difficult times to reach where it is today.”
He further added, “The film will give young audiences a glimpse of an era when India did not have the modern facilities we see today. Large shopping malls were absent, foreign products were not easily available, and life was very different. We are talking about a period when people had limited choices and the nation was undergoing significant economic transformation.”
Providing an example, Bajpayee said that the year 1992 may seem like a chapter from a history book for today’s generation. During that period, even the broadcast of cricket matches was considered a major event. The rapid developments in entertainment, markets, and technology that people experience today were largely absent back then. Through this film, audiences will gain a deeper understanding of India’s history and the economic reforms that shaped the country.
The story of Governor is reportedly inspired by S. Venkitaramanan, who served as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India during a time when the country was facing a severe economic crisis. He played a crucial role in stabilizing the economy and strengthening the financial system. The film aims to bring this significant historical period to the big screen.
Governor is being presented by Sunshine Pictures. The film is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and directed by Chinmay Mandlekar. The screenplay and story have been written by Suvendu Bhattacharya, Saurabh Bharat, Ravi Asrani, and Vipul Shah. The film is scheduled to release in theaters on June 12.
