Washington, D.C.:
US President Donald Trump has announced a major increase in the global tariff rate, raising it from 10 percent to 15 percent.
The move comes shortly after the Supreme Court of the United States struck down the earlier global tariff order. In a 6–3 majority ruling delivered on Friday, the Court held that Trump had exceeded his authority by invoking a national emergency law to impose the tariffs.
Trump Calls Court Ruling “Anti-American”
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump criticized the Supreme Court’s decision, calling it “useless and extremely anti-American.”
He wrote that as President of the United States, he was increasing the worldwide tariff from 10 percent to 15 percent. Trump claimed that for years many countries had taken economic advantage of the US without consequences, adding that his administration would now move forward “fully legally” to restructure tariff policies.
More Tariff Changes Expected
Trump further stated that in the coming months, his administration would determine new and legally sound tariffs aimed at strengthening the US economy and advancing his “Make America Great Again” agenda.
The announcement is expected to have significant implications for global trade, potentially impacting imports, exports, and international market dynamics.
