IPL 2026: Sunil Narine’s ‘Super’ Spell Seals Historic Super Over Win for Kolkata in Lucknow

Lucknow: One of the most thrilling matches of IPL 2026 unfolded on Sunday at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, where Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a nail-biting Super Over finish. The match went down to the very last ball, with veteran “mystery spinner” Sunil Narine turning the game in Kolkata’s favor.

Shami’s Last-Ball Six Forces a Tie
Chasing a target of 156, Lucknow found themselves under pressure for most of the innings. However, Mohammed Shami produced a dramatic finish. With six runs needed off the final delivery, he smashed a massive six off Kartik Tyagi to level the scores at 155 and push the match into a Super Over.

Super Over Drama: Narine’s Magic
Lucknow opted to bat first in the Super Over but had no answers to Narine’s brilliance.

• He conceded just 1 run in the over.
• He dismissed big hitters Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram.

Chasing a mere 2 runs, Kolkata comfortably sealed the victory.

Rinku Singh’s All-Round Heroics
The foundation of Kolkata’s win was laid earlier by Rinku Singh, who played a brilliant knock of 83 runs, helping KKR reach a competitive total of 155. He also showcased exceptional fielding by taking five शानदार catches on the boundary, an extraordinary feat.

Stats and Records

• This was LSG’s first-ever Super Over in IPL history.
• For KKR, it was their fifth Super Over, marking their second win (2 wins, 3 losses).
• Match Score: KKR 155/7 (20 overs) | LSG 155/8 (20 overs)

Captaincy and Teams
Under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, Kolkata displayed disciplined bowling and sharp fielding. On the other hand, Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow fell short under pressure despite coming close to victory.
