IPL 2026 : How Can KKR Qualify for the Playoffs? Here Are All the Scenarios

New Delhi

Kolkata Knight Riders have made a remarkable comeback in IPL 2026 after a poor start to the season. Following six consecutive defeats early in the tournament, KKR bounced back strongly by winning six of their last seven matches, keeping their playoff hopes alive. The team currently has 13 points from 13 matches.

KKR now have just one league-stage match remaining, which will be played against Delhi Capitals on May 24. To stay in contention for a playoff berth, Kolkata must register a convincing victory in that game. However, even a win may not be enough, as their qualification will also depend on the outcomes of other matches.

The first equation KKR need is a victory over Delhi Capitals. After that, they will hope that Mumbai Indians defeat Rajasthan Royals in their May 24 encounter.

If both these results go in KKR’s favour, then the clash between Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants on May 23 will become crucial. In that scenario, KKR would qualify for the playoffs if LSG manage to beat PBKS.

KKR boosted their chances significantly on Wednesday after defeating Mumbai Indians by four wickets at Eden Gardens. Captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to bowl first. KKR’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, restricting Mumbai Indians to 147/8 in 20 overs.

Chasing 148, KKR reached the target in 18.5 overs with six wickets in hand. Manish Pandey played a crucial knock of 45 runs off 33 balls, while Rovman Powell contributed 40 runs from 30 deliveries.

With the ball, Sunil Narine, Saurabh Dubey, and Karthik Tyagi impressed. Narine conceded just 13 runs in his four overs and picked up one wicket, while Dubey and Tyagi claimed two wickets each.
