In an exciting encounter in IPL 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Lucknow Super Giants in a Super Over during the 38th match on Sunday at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. Chasing a target of just 2 runs in the Super Over, KKR secured victory on the very first ball with a boundary from Rinku Singh.

Earlier, KKR posted 155/7 in their 20 overs. In response, LSG matched the score with 155/8, pushing the match into a Super Over. Sunil Narine was entrusted with bowling the Super Over for KKR, and he delivered brilliantly. He bowled Nicholas Pooran on the first ball, conceded just one run, and dismissed Aiden Markram with the help of excellent fielding on the boundary.

In the Super Over chase, Rinku Singh came out to bat and sealed the win instantly with a four on the first delivery.

Chasing 156, LSG had a shaky start as Mitchell Marsh was dismissed early for 2 runs. A crucial partnership of 57 runs between Aiden Markram (31 off 27 balls) and captain Rishabh Pant (42 off 38 balls) brought stability. However, wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Nicholas Pooran continued his poor form, scoring just 9 runs.

In the final over, LSG needed 17 runs. Despite some drama, including no-balls and a late six from Mohammed Shami on the final delivery, the match was tied, leading to a Super Over.

Earlier in the match, KKR struggled at the top, losing Ajinkya Rahane (10) and Tim Seifert (0) early. Cameron Green contributed 34 runs, but it was Rinku Singh’s outstanding unbeaten knock of 83 runs off 51 balls that guided KKR to a competitive total. He hit 7 fours and 5 sixes and added a crucial 62-run partnership with Sunil Narine in the final overs.

For LSG, Mohsin Khan was the standout bowler, picking up 5 wickets for 23 runs in his 4 overs.
