Iran–Israel Conflict: Escalating Tensions in Gulf Countries, Massive Explosions in Tehran, and Formation of a Transitional Council After the Supreme Leader’s Death

Tehran/Doha — War clouds have darkened over West Asia. Following intense attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel, chaos has spread across the region. After the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country’s leadership has reportedly been handed over to a three-member “Transitional Council.” Meanwhile, the Iran-backed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has launched retaliatory strikes on American bases across Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Heavy Destruction in Iran and Blow to Military Leadership

According to the latest reports, a massive explosion was heard in eastern Tehran, with thick black smoke rising into the sky. Israeli strikes reportedly targeted not only military headquarters but also caused significant damage to Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility.

The IRGC has confirmed that more than ten senior military officials, including its Commander-in-Chief, have been killed. In Iran’s Kerman province, attacks have reportedly resulted in the deaths of 13 Iranian soldiers.

Growing Threat Across GCC Countries

Expanding the scope of the conflict, Iran has reportedly launched drone and missile attacks on U.S. bases located in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait:

• Saudi Arabia: Two drones targeted the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, causing a fire.

• Qatar: Two ballistic missiles were intercepted in Qatari airspace. Qatar Airways has temporarily suspended its flights.

• Oman: A fuel tank at the Duqm Port was reportedly targeted by a drone.

• Bahrain: The IRGC claims that 20 drones and three missiles successfully struck their intended targets.

Civilian Casualties and Humanitarian Crisis

In Iran’s Minab city, an attack on a girls’ school reportedly killed 165 people, including a large number of students. Massive mourning gatherings are being held across Iran, where slogans against the United States and Israel are being raised.

So far, more than 550 civilians have reportedly lost their lives in the ongoing conflict.

Political Turmoil in the United States: War Powers Act Debate

Meanwhile, in Washington, questions are being raised over President Trump’s decision to authorize military action. The U.S. Congress is expected to vote this week on the “War Powers Act,” which could limit the president’s authority to engage in military action without congressional approval. Several Democratic lawmakers have described the war as unlawful.

Following a drone attack on the British airbase in Akrotiri, Cyprus, France has decided to deploy anti-missile and anti-drone systems to ensure security in the Mediterranean region.
