A New Era for Healthcare in Udaipur: Hindustan Zinc to Transform RNT Medical College and MB Hospital

In what is being hailed as the most significant healthcare milestone of the first quarter of the 21st century for the Mewar region, Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) has stepped forward to completely rejuvenate the Maharana Bhupal (MB) Hospital and Rabindra Nath Tagore (RNT) Medical College. This transformative initiative, funded under Hindustan Zinc’s CSR wing, aims to redefine the medical landscape of the “Zinc City” and provide world-class facilities to the masses.

The Vision: A Future-Ready Master Plan

Hindustan Zinc, one of the world’s top five silver producers and a global leader in integrated zinc production, has signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RNT Medical College. The project is not merely a renovation but a strategic Master Plan to redesign and upgrade the hospital into a state-of-the-art, multi-specialty healthcare facility. The objective is to establish a long-term community asset that serves as a pillar of strength for the healthcare ecosystem of Rajasthan.

Strengthening the Heart of Udaipur: Advanced Cath Lab

A cornerstone of this collaboration is the development of a cutting-edge Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab). Equipped with advanced cardiac technology, this lab will enable critical life-saving procedures such as:

• Coronary Angiography and Angioplasty

• Stent Placement

• Emergency Management of Heart Attacks

By reducing response times and providing precise interventions, the facility will be a boon for heart patients who previously had to travel to larger metros for affordable yet advanced care.

The MoU was signed and exchanged by Mr. Arun Mishra, CEO and Whole-time Director of Hindustan Zinc, and Dr. Vipin Mathur, Principal of RNT Medical College.

The Need for Scale: By the Numbers

The statistics from 2025 highlight the immense pressure on the current infrastructure. The Cardiology Department alone witnessed:

• 95,000+ OPD patients.

• 18,000 Echo tests and 2,600 Angiographies.

• The single existing Cath Lab operated at maximum capacity to perform over 1,350 Angioplasties and various complex implants. The expansion is set to double the capacity, ensuring no patient is left waiting in critical moments.

Boosting Medical Tourism and Community Growth

Beyond local healthcare, this upgrade is expected to position Udaipur as a prominent Medical Tourism Hub. The project aligns with Vedanta Group’s broader commitment to social impact, which already benefits over 23 lakh people across 2,300 villages.

The signing ceremony was graced by prominent figures including Dr. Mukesh Sharma (Head Cardiologist), Dr. Kirti, Dr. Harcharan, Anupam Nidhi (CSR Head, Vedanta), Mubarik Khan (Chief Commercial Officer, HZL), Rajiv Pitti (Head Finance Controller), and Maitreyee Sankhla (Head Corporate Communications).
