Vidya Balan Watches Her Film After 25 Years, Pens Emotional Note for Irrfan Khan

Vidya Balan revealed that she recently watched her long-delayed film The Last Tenant for the very first time, nearly 25 years after it was originally shot. The film was finally released on April 29, 2026, marking the sixth death anniversary of Irrfan Khan.

Sharing an emotional note on Instagram, Vidya Balan reflected on one of the most difficult phases of her career, when projects she worked on repeatedly failed to release. She recalled that her first Malayalam film Chakram was shelved, and over the next few years she was reportedly removed from nearly a dozen films.

The actress admitted that the repeated setbacks affected her deeply, and she eventually buried those painful memories in order to move forward in life and career.

Vidya shared that filmmaker Sarthak Dasgupta recently informed her that the film had finally been released on YouTube, bringing back memories from the time of its shoot. She remembered excitedly calling her sister Priya years ago to tell her that she was working with Irrfan Khan.

She wrote that even back then, she considered Irrfan to be one of the most natural actors she had ever seen, and after watching the film now, she felt exactly the same. According to her, there was never any artificiality in his performances.

Vidya Balan also expressed regret that she and Irrfan Khan could never collaborate on more projects despite several opportunities over the years. However, she added that she is grateful to now finally have The Last Tenant as a lasting memory of their work together.
