Actress Dia Mirza, who is widely admired for her acting and environmental advocacy, shared heartfelt moments from a special evening dedicated to legendary poet and lyricist Kaifi Azmi.
Taking to Instagram on Monday, Dia posted a series of pictures and videos from the event. The gathering was attended by several renowned personalities, including Urmila Matondkar, Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Tanvi Azmi, and Baba Azmi.
Sharing her emotions about the evening, Dia wrote, “Every moment spent with the Azmi-Akhtar family is always special and deeply enriching. I feel truly honored to have been a part of this beautiful evening dedicated to remembering the great thinker, revolutionary, and poet Kaifi Azmi saab.”
The actress described the gathering as both “inspiring” and “memorable” while expressing gratitude to everyone who was part of the occasion. She also recalled a few lines from one of Kaifi Azmi’s poems that she often remembers.
Quoting the legendary poet, Dia wrote:
“The birds would not have made noise without reason; surely someone must have moved from the city toward the forest. Those who were cutting trees knew that without shade above their heads, their bodies would burn. Those celebrating the arrival of spring perhaps forgot that even the thorns had been nurtured with someone’s blood. Sitting on an electric wire, the bird laughs while thinking that the forest may no longer belong to it. Those who flew away from their forests in thirst must have mistaken every mirage for an ocean.”
Kaifi Azmi, one of the most celebrated progressive Urdu poets, lyricists, and screenwriters of India, was also the father of actress Shabana Azmi. He was known not only for his romantic poetry and film songs but also for addressing social issues through his writing. Kaifi Azmi made immense contributions to Hindi cinema with memorable songs and lyrics for classic films such as Kaagaz Ke Phool, Haqeeqat, and Heer Raanjha.
