Ameesha Patel Slams Trolling Culture in India, Calls It Shameful

Mumbai |

Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel has strongly criticized the growing trolling culture on social media, stating that actors in India are often targeted more harshly by their own people than Hollywood celebrities.

Taking to social media platform X, Ameesha expressed concern over what she described as a negative mindset prevailing in the country. She said that Indian actors are subjected to excessive trolling, especially over their looks and outfits at major events, calling the trend both “sad” and “shameful.”

“Actors in India are trolled far more brutally by their own people compared to how Hollywood stars are treated in their own country,” she wrote, highlighting the issue of online negativity.

This is not the first time Ameesha has voiced her opinions openly. She has previously been in the spotlight for her remarks on the public relations (PR) strategies adopted by actors. Speaking to paparazzi in Mumbai, she had defended her earlier statements, saying, “What I said was right. Nowadays, everyone considers themselves number one.”

In another post on X, she took a dig at younger actors, stating that many who have not yet delivered a ₹200 crore blockbuster are using PR machinery to project themselves as top stars. She emphasized that one should claim superstar status only after achieving truly historic success.

“Call yourself a superstar only when you have done something that creates history. Stop playing PR games—this is the bitter truth,” she stated.

Ameesha also pointed out that global stardom comes from delivering major hits across the world. Citing her own career, she mentioned films like Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, and Gadar 2 as some of her biggest solo blockbusters. She added that despite these achievements, her PR machinery remains “weak” because it is not based on false promotion.

Her remarks have sparked discussions on social media about trolling, PR culture, and the pressures faced by actors in the digital age.
