Veteran actress Hema Malini became emotional after receiving the prestigious Padma Vibhushan on behalf of her late husband and legendary actor Dharmendra at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
On Tuesday, Hema Malini and her daughter Esha Deol shared emotional messages on social media expressing their feelings about the memorable moment.
Hema Malini posted pictures and videos from the award ceremony on Instagram and described the occasion as deeply emotional and joyful.
She wrote, “It was an extremely emotional and happy moment for me. It felt as if my husband Dharmendra was standing beside me at that moment, holding my hand and leading me to the stage where his Padma Vibhushan honour was waiting for me.”
The actress recalled the ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday, where several distinguished personalities of the country were honoured.
She said, “At that moment, I felt immense pride in him. Memories of the years we spent together flashed before my eyes — our days of working together in films and later our journey as life partners. Remembering those beautiful moments brought tears to my eyes.”
Praising Dharmendra, Hema Malini described him as a loving husband, a wonderful father, a good friend, a true guide, and a wise human being.
She further wrote, “More than anything, he was an extremely generous and kind-hearted person loved by everyone who knew him.”
Expressing gratitude, she added, “I thank God for blessing me with such a wonderful life partner whose memories I will cherish forever. Receiving the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second-highest civilian honour, on behalf of Dharam ji was a very special and emotional moment for me.”
Meanwhile, Esha Deol also remembered her father through an emotional Instagram post.
She wrote, “It was a proud and emotional moment for all of us. Deep in our hearts, we wished that Papa was with us today. He would have looked handsome as always in a white shirt and blue suit and would have walked up to receive this honour with the innocent happiness of a child.”
Esha further revealed that her mother Hema Malini attended the ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan to receive the award, while her younger sister Ahana Deol was also present there.
She said Ahana became emotional and applauded proudly while watching their father being honoured.
Esha concluded her message by saying, “He is someone we love deeply, miss dearly, and proudly call our father. He will always live in our hearts.”
