Mumbai:
Late Bollywood actor Faraz Khan may not have enjoyed a long-lasting film career, but he remains remembered for his strong screen presence and remarkable journey in the entertainment industry during the 1990s.
Interestingly, Faraz Khan was reportedly the original choice for the lead role in the blockbuster film Maine Pyar Kiya before the role eventually went to Salman Khan, who later became one of Bollywood’s biggest superstars.
Born on May 27, 1970, in Mumbai, Faraz Khan was the elder son of actor Yusuf Khan, who was popularly known in the film industry as Zebisko.
Faraz always aspired to join films, and a major turning point came when filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya was searching for a fresh face for Maine Pyar Kiya. Several aspiring actors auditioned for the film, including Salman Khan and Deepak Tijori.
According to reports, Sooraj Barjatya was highly impressed with Faraz Khan and had almost finalized him for the role. However, before shooting could begin, Faraz fell seriously ill with jaundice and was unable to continue with the project. The role was eventually offered to Salman Khan, and the film went on to become a massive success, transforming Salman into a leading Bollywood star.
Faraz Khan eventually made his Bollywood debut in 1996 with Fareb alongside Suman Ranganathan and Milind Gunaji. The song “Teri Aankhen Jhuki Jhuki” from the film became quite popular among audiences.
He later appeared in Prithvi alongside Suniel Shetty.
Faraz gained further recognition with the 1998 film Mehndi, in which he starred opposite Rani Mukerji. The film, based on the social issue of dowry, received considerable attention, and Faraz’s portrayal of a greedy husband was appreciated. However, the success did not significantly boost his acting career.
He later appeared in films such as Dulhan Banoo Main Teri, Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya, and Chand Bujh Gaya, but none managed to achieve major commercial success.
As film offers declined, Faraz shifted towards television and appeared in shows like Lipstick, Achanak 37 Saal Baad, and Ssshhhh…Koi Hai.
In 2020, Faraz Khan’s health deteriorated due to a neurological disorder and chest infection. He was admitted to a hospital in Bengaluru and placed on ventilator support. At the time, actress Pooja Bhatt appealed on social media for financial assistance for his treatment.
During this difficult period, Salman Khan stepped forward and reportedly paid Faraz Khan’s medical expenses. Actress Kashmera Shah later shared this information publicly on social media.
Despite doctors’ efforts, Faraz Khan passed away on November 4, 2020.
