New Delhi:
As rising temperatures and heatwave conditions continue across the country, people are increasingly turning towards traditional cooling beverages to stay refreshed during summer. One such popular traditional drink from Rajasthan is Tamarind Panna, which is not only delicious but is also considered highly beneficial for health.
Prepared using sour tamarind, jaggery, mint, and aromatic spices, this refreshing summer drink helps cool the body instantly and provides relief from extreme heat and dehydration.
For generations, Tamarind Panna has been a popular summer beverage in Rajasthan. According to Ayurvedic practices, it is believed to help maintain the body’s temperature balance naturally. The ingredients used in the drink help prevent water loss in the body and also support better digestion.
Health experts say that the nutrients present in tamarind help cool the body, while black salt and roasted cumin aid digestion. Mint provides freshness, and jaggery helps boost energy levels. Due to these natural benefits, Tamarind Panna is becoming a preferred traditional drink during intense summer heat.
The preparation of Tamarind Panna is simple and easy. To make the drink, two tablespoons of tamarind are soaked in warm water until softened. The tamarind pulp is then mashed and strained to extract the juice. Jaggery or rock sugar, black salt, roasted cumin powder, and a small amount of black pepper powder are added to enhance the flavor. Cold water and ice are mixed in, and the drink is finally garnished with fresh mint leaves before serving.
During summer, excessive sweating often causes dehydration and loss of essential minerals from the body. In such conditions, Tamarind Panna helps keep the body hydrated while also reducing fatigue and weakness.
