England registered a 24-run victory over Italy in the 29th match of the T20 World Cup 2026, securing their third win of the tournament and booking a place in the Super 8 stage. From Group C, England and the West Indies have now qualified for the next round.
England Post 202/7 After Strong Finish
After winning the toss at Eden Gardens, England opted to bat first and scored 202 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Jos Buttler and Phil Salt added 21 runs for the opening wicket before Buttler was dismissed for just 3. Salt contributed 28 runs, but England found themselves struggling at 105 for 5.
From there, Will Jacks and Sam Curran turned the game around with a crucial 54-run partnership off just 25 balls for the sixth wicket. Jacks remained unbeaten on 53 off 22 deliveries, smashing four sixes and three fours, while Curran added 25 off 19 balls.
For Italy, Grant Stewart and Crishan Kalugamage picked up two wickets each.
Italy Fall Short Despite Fightback
Chasing 203, Italy were bowled out for 178. They lost three early wickets for just 22 runs before Justin Mosca and Ben Manenti stitched together a 92-run partnership for the fourth wicket off 48 balls, reviving hopes.
Manenti hammered 60 off 25 balls, including six sixes and four boundaries. Later, Mosca added 45, while Stewart chipped in with valuable runs to keep Italy in contention.
However, quick wickets in the 16th over dented Italy’s chase. A late 40-run stand between Stewart and Jaspreet Singh briefly reignited hopes, but once that partnership was broken, Italy’s resistance collapsed.
For England, Curran and Jamie Overton claimed three wickets each, while Jofra Archer took two. Jacks and Adil Rashid picked up one wicket apiece.
With this win, England comfortably advanced to the Super 8 stage, maintaining strong momentum in the tournament.
