New Delhi:
For centuries, Indian households have relied on traditional remedies to manage common health issues. One such widely known preparation is Amritdhara, a simple yet powerful mixture believed to help relieve headaches, nausea, indigestion, and cold-related discomfort.
A Traditional Remedy With Three Key Ingredients
Amritdhara is traditionally prepared using three aromatic and potent ingredients—Bhimseni Camphor, Peppermint Extract, and Ajwain Extract. These ingredients are mixed in small quantities and stored in a sealed glass bottle.
When combined, the substances react with each other and form a strong aromatic liquid traditionally used in small doses to relieve common physical discomforts.
Benefits and Uses
The cooling effect of Amritdhara is believed to help provide relief from:
Headache and Migraine
Indigestion and stomach discomfort
Nausea and restlessness
Cold and minor respiratory discomfort
For headaches, the liquid is usually applied directly to the forehead. In cases of toothache, it can be applied to the affected area using cotton. For digestive discomfort, a very small amount is sometimes taken orally. It may also be mixed with water and used as a mouth rinse to reduce bad breath.
How to Prepare Amritdhara
The preparation method is simple: mix camphor essence, ajwain essence, and peppermint essence in a small glass bottle and close it immediately. Shake gently so the ingredients combine properly. Because the mixture is volatile, it should be kept tightly sealed to prevent evaporation.
Precautions
Experts advise avoiding contact with sensitive areas such as the eyes, nose, and ears. Pregnant women and children should consult a medical professional before using the remedy. If irritation or burning occurs after application, its use should be discontinued.
Although modern medicines are widely available today, traditional remedies like Amritdhara still hold a place in many homes for quick relief from minor ailments.
