London.
Britain’s former prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has moved out of his Windsor residence, Royal Lodge, and relocated to the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk amid renewed scrutiny following the release of new documents linked to Jeffrey Epstein.
Prince Andrew vacated Royal Lodge on Monday night and is currently staying at Wood Farm Cottage on the Sandringham Estate. Palace sources said his permanent residence there is undergoing renovation work.
Although Buckingham Palace had announced in October that the relocation would take place in early 2026, sources suggest the process was expedited after the emergence of new Epstein-related files.
Pressure has been mounting on Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor to testify in the United States over his links with convicted sex offender and financier Jeffrey Epstein. The former prince has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
In October, the palace confirmed that Prince Andrew would be removed from Royal Lodge, and at the same time, he was stripped of his royal title.
Sandringham Estate is the private property of the King, and it is understood that Prince Andrew will personally bear the costs associated with his new accommodation. Reports indicate that he is expected to eventually move into Marsh Farm, another property on the estate.
The controversy surrounding Prince Andrew has long posed a challenge for the British royal family, with critics arguing that previous decisions regarding his status were slow and lacked impact.
Prince Andrew’s continued residence at Royal Lodge had become a symbol of the wider issues stemming from his association with Epstein, raising questions about privilege, transparency, and the use of public funds.
It is hoped that the move to Sandringham will mark a decisive step and help keep Mountbatten-Windsor, as far as possible, out of the public spotlight.
