Veteran actor Pankaj Dheer passed away on October 15, 2025, in Mumbai after a prolonged battle with cancer at the age of 68. His death was confirmed by the Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA), which noted that Pankaj had served as its former General Secretary and chairman of its trust.
Known widely for his portrayal of Karna in B.R. Chopra’s Mahabharat, Pankaj Dheer’s demise leaves a void in Indian television and mythological storytelling. His health had reportedly been deteriorating for months, with sources indicating that although he had earlier undergone surgery, the cancer relapsed.
He is survived by his son Nikitin Dheer, also a prominent actor, and Pankaj’s wife Anita Dheer. Nikitin, who is married to Kratika Sengar, shared an emotional tribute following his father’s demise, reflecting on life’s transient nature.
Nikitin Dheer is often referred to in media as Pankaj Dheer’s son or Nikitin Dheer father, especially in the context of carrying forward his father’s legacy. In his career, Nikitin gained recognition for roles in films such as Chennai Express, Jodhaa Akbar, and Sooryavanshi.
Pankaj Dheer’s journey in the entertainment world was marked by diverse roles—beyond Mahabharat, he appeared in Chandrakanta and several films and TV serials. His performances made him a household name, especially in genres rooted in mythology and fantasy.
As the news of Pankaj Dheer’s death spread, fans and colleagues remembered him with respect and sorrow. Questions surfaced in public discourse: Pankaj Dheer died of cancer, but which cancer exactly wasn’t disclosed in official statements; media reports refer to a battle with cancer and a recent relapse. At this stage, Pankaj Dheer’s cause of death is attributed broadly to cancer.
