A major upset was narrowly avoided at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday as England defeated Nepal by just four runs in a thrilling Group C match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Chasing a target of 185 runs, Nepal put up a spirited fight but fell agonisingly short, managing 180 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. Nepal needed 10 runs in the final over, but could score only five as England held their nerve to clinch a dramatic victory.
England’s Sam Curran bowled the final over and used all his international and league cricket experience to defend the total under immense pressure.

While lack of experience at the international level and limited exposure against top teams proved costly, the rising Asian side impressed everyone with their fearless batting and fighting spirit, pushing England till the very last ball.

For England, Liam Dawson picked up two wickets, while Luke Wood, Jofra Archer, Will Jacks, and Sam Curran claimed one wicket each.

Earlier, after winning the toss, England opted to bat first and posted 184 runs for seven wickets.
