Kandy:
Sri Lanka secured a commanding 105-run victory over Oman in the Group B clash of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. This was Sri Lanka’s second win of the tournament.
Chasing a massive target of 226 runs, Oman’s batting line-up crumbled under pressure. The team got off to a disastrous start, losing both openers with just 12 runs on the board. Hammad Mirza, who came in at number three, was dismissed for 9.
Mohammad Nadeem and Wasim Ali showed some resistance, adding 42 runs for the fourth wicket — the highest partnership of the innings. Wasim scored 27 off 20 balls, hitting three sixes, while Nadeem remained unbeaten on 53 off 56 deliveries, including three fours and one six. Apart from these two, no other Oman batter managed to reach double figures.
Oman finished at 120/9 in their 20 overs, falling short by 105 runs.
For Sri Lanka, Dushmantha Chameera took 2 wickets for 19 runs in 2 overs, Maheesh Theekshana claimed 2 for 11 in 4 overs, Dunith Wellalage picked up 1 for 17 in 4 overs, Dushan Hemantha took 1 for 45 in 4 overs, and Kamindu Mendis grabbed 1 for 10 in 2 overs.
Earlier, Oman had won the toss and opted to bowl first. Despite a shaky start, Sri Lanka posted an imposing 225/5 in 20 overs. Captain Dasun Shanaka smashed a blistering 50 off just 19 balls, including five sixes and two fours — the fastest half-century for Sri Lanka in T20 internationals. Pavan Rathnayake contributed 60 off 28 balls with eight fours and one six, while Kusal Mendis scored 61 off 45 balls, hitting seven boundaries.
Sri Lanka’s all-round performance ensured a dominant win and strengthened their position in Group B.
