Italy, playing their maiden T20 World Cup, scripted history with a dominant 10-wicket victory over Nepal on Thursday, setting several major records in a single match.
After bowling Nepal out for just 123 runs in 19.3 overs, the Mosca brothers powered Italy to their first-ever T20 World Cup win in emphatic fashion. The target was chased down in just 12.4 overs without losing a wicket.
Justin Mosca remained unbeaten on 60 off 44 balls, smashing five fours and three sixes, while Anthony Mosca hammered an unbeaten 62 off 32 deliveries, including six sixes and three fours.
Record-Breaking Partnership
The Mosca brothers stitched together an unbeaten 124-run partnership — now the highest partnership between siblings in T20 World Cup history. They surpassed the previous record held by Pakistan’s Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal, who had put on 96 runs together in 2014.
Historic Milestones
-
This was Italy’s first-ever 10-wicket victory in T20 cricket.
-
Nepal suffered their second 10-wicket defeat in T20 internationals. Their previous such loss came against the West Indies in 2025.
-
It was only the second instance of an Associate team winning a T20 World Cup match by 10 wickets. Oman had previously achieved the feat against Papua New Guinea in 2021.
-
The 124-run stand marked the third century partnership by an Associate team in T20 World Cup history. In 2021, Oman’s Aqib Ilyas and Jatinder Singh shared an unbeaten 131-run stand against Papua New Guinea, while Scotland’s Michael Jones and George Munsey added 126 runs against Italy in the 2026 edition.
Dominant Chase
Italy’s win also ranks as the third-fastest successful chase (in terms of balls remaining) of a 120-plus target in T20 World Cup history. Italy sealed the match with 44 balls to spare.
Previously:
-
West Indies chased 129 against the USA in 2024 with 55 balls remaining.
-
England overhauled 126 against Australia in 2021 with 50 balls left.
Italy’s comprehensive victory not only marked their arrival on the global stage but also etched their name into the tournament’s record books.
