Mumbai

Ahead of their crucial T20 World Cup semifinal clash against England at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, Indian cricketers Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma and Axar Patel visited the revered Siddhivinayak Temple to seek blessings.

The players offered prayers to Lord Ganesha as Team India prepares for the high-stakes knockout encounter.

Players Looking to Deliver in Knockout Stage

Abhishek Sharma, who had a difficult start to the tournament with three consecutive ducks, regained form with a 15-run knock against South Africa and a solid 55 against Zimbabwe. He later scored 10 runs against West Indies. Fans are expecting a strong performance from the opening batter in the semifinal.

Ishan Kishan impressed earlier in the tournament with half-centuries against Namibia and Pakistan, followed by a 38-run innings against Zimbabwe in the Super 8 stage. Supporters will be hoping for another impactful innings in the upcoming match.

Axar Patel has also played a key role with the ball, picking up two wickets each against USA, Namibia and Pakistan, and one wicket against Zimbabwe. He is expected to contribute with both bat and ball in the semifinal.

India and England’s Road to the Semifinal

India reached the Super 8 stage after winning four consecutive group-stage matches against USA, Namibia, Pakistan and the Netherlands. In the Super 8 round, India suffered a 76-run defeat to South Africa but bounced back strongly with a 72-run victory over Zimbabwe. The team then secured a five-wicket win against West Indies in the decisive match to book a semifinal berth.

England, meanwhile, edged past Nepal by four runs but lost to West Indies in the group stage. They recovered with wins over Scotland and Italy to qualify for the Super 8, where they defeated Sri Lanka, Pakistan and New Zealand to reach the semifinal.

India and England have faced each other five times in T20 World Cup history, with India winning three of those encounters. Notably, in the last two editions of the tournament, the winner of the India-England semifinal has gone on to lift the trophy.

With both teams in strong form, Thursday’s clash promises to be a high-intensity contest.
