Lucknow: CCTV Equipment Used During IPL Matches Stolen, Security Monitoring Affected

Lucknow: Equipment connected to CCTV cameras installed under the Safe City Project has reportedly been stolen in the Gomti Nagar Extension area of Lucknow, affecting surveillance and traffic monitoring operations during ongoing Indian Premier League matches.

According to officials, nearly 40 CCTV cameras installed along Shaheed Path are currently non-functional due to the theft. The estimated value of the stolen equipment is around ₹1.25 lakh.

Complaint Filed by Maintenance Company

Vinod Yadav, an employee of the company responsible for maintaining the surveillance system, filed a complaint at the Gomti Nagar Extension Police Station.

In the complaint, he stated that under the Lucknow Smart City Limited project, poles and CCTV cameras had been installed on Shaheed Path. On the night of April 25 at around 10:49 PM, unidentified thieves allegedly removed essential equipment including switches, batteries, UPS systems, and other components from the pole-mounted units.

Impact on Security and Traffic Management

The stolen equipment was critical for operating the surveillance network. These cameras were being used for:

• Traffic monitoring on Shaheed Path
• Managing vehicle movement during IPL matches
• Women’s safety surveillance
• Crime prevention and law enforcement monitoring

With the system currently down, authorities say traffic control and public security arrangements have been impacted.

Police have launched an investigation into the theft.
