The 51st match of IPL 2026 will see Delhi Capitals take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium on Friday evening. For Delhi, the contest is nothing short of a must-win encounter, as another defeat could virtually end their playoff hopes.
Delhi Capitals started their campaign strongly with back-to-back wins, but their form has dipped sharply since then. The team has lost six of its last eight matches and currently sits seventh on the points table with just four wins from ten games. Even their home form has been disappointing, adding more pressure ahead of the crucial clash.
Captain Axar Patel has struggled with the bat this season, while spinner Kuldeep Yadav has failed to deliver consistently with the ball. Delhi will need both senior players to step up against a resurgent Kolkata side.
On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders endured a disastrous start to the season, losing five matches in a row, while one game was washed out. However, the team has bounced back strongly, winning its last three matches against Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
KKR’s recent turnaround has been driven by improved performances in both batting and bowling. Mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy and all-rounder Sunil Narine are expected to play key roles once again.
Weather conditions in New Delhi are expected to remain clear during the match, with no rain forecast. The pitch at Arun Jaitley Stadium is generally batting-friendly, though disciplined bowling has produced results this season. Earlier matches at the venue saw bowlers like Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmad dominate with accurate line and length.
Historically, KKR have enjoyed the upper hand in this rivalry. Out of 35 IPL meetings between the two sides, Kolkata have won 19 matches, while Delhi have emerged victorious 15 times. One match ended without a result.
