CM Suvendu Adhikari Meets Mithun Chakraborty at His Residence

Kolkata

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited BJP leader and actor Mithun Chakraborty at his residence on Saturday and inquired about his well-being.

According to information provided by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), during the meeting the Chief Minister presented an idol of Goddess Kali to the actor. Both Mithun Chakraborty and Suvendu Adhikari are widely popular in West Bengal.

It is noted that after the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, Suvendu Adhikari became the Chief Minister of West Bengal following his victory. The Chief Minister holds a Master’s degree in History from Rabindra Bharati University and has taken a lifelong vow of remaining unmarried, dedicating himself to public service.

Suvendu Adhikari began his political career in 1995 as a councillor of the Contai Municipality. He later served as a key strategist of the Trinamool Congress and played an important role in the 2007 Nandigram movement. In September 2020, he parted ways with TMC due to differences and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Meanwhile, actor Mithun Chakraborty, despite enjoying strong popularity in West Bengal, has had a turbulent political journey. After establishing himself in the film industry, he joined the Trinamool Congress in 2014 at the invitation of then Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The party sent him to the Rajya Sabha. However, following his name being linked to the Saradha chit fund scam, he resigned from the Rajya Sabha in late 2016 and stepped away from active politics.

On March 7, 2021, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mithun Chakraborty joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. The BJP projected him as a major Bengali face and star campaigner in West Bengal. His rallies drew large crowds, and he actively campaigned for the party.

Mithun Chakraborty has largely limited his role in electoral politics to campaigning, ideological promotion of the party, and boosting the morale of workers, rather than holding any administrative position or contesting elections.
