Gujarat Titans batter Sai Sudharsan scripted history during the IPL 2026 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Saturday.
Although Gujarat Titans suffered a 29-run defeat, Sai Sudharsan produced another brilliant innings and achieved a major milestone in T20 cricket.
Fastest to 3,000 T20 Runs
Sai Sudharsan became the fastest batter in T20 cricket history to complete 3,000 runs, reaching the landmark in just 78 innings.
He broke the previous record held by former Australian cricketer Shaun Marsh, who had taken 85 innings to reach the milestone.
Sudharsan played an unbeaten knock of 53 runs off 28 balls against KKR, smashing six fours and three sixes during his innings.
Injury Scare During the Match
During his innings, Sudharsan was struck on the elbow by a delivery and briefly walked off the field. However, he later returned to continue batting and tried his best to keep Gujarat Titans in the chase.
This was the seventh time in IPL 2026 that Sudharsan crossed the 50-run mark.
Equals Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans Record
With this innings, Sai Sudharsan equaled Shubman Gill’s record for the most 50-plus scores in a single IPL season for Gujarat Titans.
He also became the first Gujarat Titans batter to score half-centuries in four consecutive IPL matches, surpassing the previous record held by Hardik Pandya, who had achieved the feat in three successive matches.
Gill and Buttler Shine Despite Gujarat’s Defeat
Apart from Sudharsan, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill played a sensational knock of 85 runs off 49 balls, hitting five fours and seven sixes.
Jos Buttler also contributed with a quickfire 57 off 35 balls.
Despite the strong batting effort, Gujarat Titans could only manage 218/4 while chasing a massive target of 248 runs.
KKR’s Batters Power Team to 247
Earlier in the match, Kolkata Knight Riders posted a huge total of 247/2 in 20 overs.
Finn Allen starred with a blistering 93 runs off 35 balls, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi remained unbeaten on 82 runs off 44 deliveries.
Cameron Green added further momentum with an unbeaten 52 off 28 balls.
