The countdown to the Women’s T20 World Cup has begun, with the tournament set to get underway in England on June 12. Hosts England will face Sri Lanka in the opening match. Here is a look at the five oldest players to have featured in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Udeshika Prabodhani
Sri Lankan fast bowler Udeshika Prabodhani is the oldest player to have participated in the Women’s T20 World Cup. She featured in the 2024 edition of the tournament at the age of 40. Prabodhani was part of every Women’s T20 World Cup campaign for Sri Lanka. In her T20I career spanning 106 matches, she has taken 84 wickets. However, she has not been selected for Sri Lanka’s squad for the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup.
Inoka Ranaweera
Sri Lankan spinner Inoka Ranaweera ranks as the second-oldest player to have played in the Women’s T20 World Cup. She participated in the 2024 tournament at the age of 38. Representing Sri Lanka in 91 T20 Internationals, Ranaweera has claimed 97 wickets and has been a key figure in the team’s bowling attack.
Suzie Bates
Veteran New Zealand cricketer Suzie Bates played in the Women’s T20 World Cup at the age of 37. Bates played a crucial role in New Zealand’s triumphant campaign in the 2024 edition, helping the team secure the championship title. She has already announced that she will retire from international cricket after the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup.
Afy Fletcher
West Indies spinner Afy Fletcher is jointly the third-oldest player to have featured in the Women’s T20 World Cup. She participated in the 2024 tournament at the age of 37. Widely regarded as one of the Caribbean side’s finest spin bowlers, Fletcher has often demonstrated the ability to turn matches in her team’s favor with her match-winning performances.
Harmanpreet Kaur
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur is among the oldest players to have appeared in the Women’s T20 World Cup. She played in the 2024 edition at the age of 35. However, her performance with the bat was below expectations during the tournament. Under her leadership, India was eliminated in the group stage. New Zealand star Sophie Devine was also 35 years old when she featured in the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup.
Ellyse Perry
Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry is the fifth-oldest player to have participated in the Women’s T20 World Cup. She competed in the 2024 tournament at the age of 33. Perry also holds the record for playing the most matches in the history of the Women’s T20 World Cup. However, Australia’s campaign ended in the semifinals after a defeat to South Africa.
