Philadelphia

A dramatic 90th-minute goal from Amad Diallo helped Ivory Coast national football team secure a hard-fought 1-0 win over Ecuador national football team in an exciting Group E clash at Philadelphia Stadium on Monday.

The match appeared destined to end in a goalless draw before Manchester United winger Amad Diallo, who came on as a substitute, produced a decisive finish in the closing moments. The victory handed Ivory Coast its first FIFA World Cup win since 2014.

With the result, Ivory Coast moved into second place in Group E behind Germany national football team, who currently lead the standings after their emphatic 7-1 victory over Curaçao.

Ecuador created several promising opportunities in the first half. John Yeboah came close to opening the scoring when his powerful effort struck the crossbar, while Alan Minda also saw a shot crash against the woodwork as Ecuador failed to capitalize on their early dominance.

Ivory Coast responded with dangerous attacks of their own. Yann Diomande impressed on the right flank, consistently troubling the Ecuadorian defense. Bazoumana Touré also tested goalkeeper Hernán Galíndez with a fierce strike, but the Ecuador shot-stopper produced an excellent save.

Diomande achieved a notable milestone during the match, becoming the first teenager to represent Ivory Coast in a World Cup game at the age of 19 years and 212 days.

The second half continued to provide chances at both ends. Ecuador captain Enner Valencia saw an effort strike the post, while Ivory Coast forward Eli Wahi came agonizingly close when his shot rattled the crossbar.

As the game progressed, Ivory Coast gradually gained greater control of possession and increased the pressure on Ecuador’s defense. Their persistence was finally rewarded in the 90th minute when Amad Diallo seized his opportunity and fired home the winning goal.

The late breakthrough secured three crucial points for Ivory Coast and significantly boosted their hopes of advancing to the knockout stages of the tournament.
