Germany made a sensational start to its FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign by thrashing Curaçao 7-1 and scripting a historic milestone in the process. With the emphatic victory, Germany became the highest-scoring team in FIFA World Cup history.
The landmark was achieved when Germany scored its seventh goal against Curaçao, taking its overall World Cup tally to 239 goals. In doing so, Germany surpassed five-time world champions Brazil national football team, who have scored 238 goals in the tournament’s history.
Defending champions Argentina national football team occupy third place on the all-time list with 152 goals, while France national football team are fourth with 136 goals. Italy national football team complete the top five with 128 goals.
Germany signaled its intent early in the match, opening the scoring within the first six minutes. However, Curaçao stunned the crowd by quickly leveling the score at 1-1.
The Germans soon regained control, with Nico Schlotterbeck heading home from a corner to restore the lead at 2-1. Just before halftime, Kai Havertz converted a penalty to extend Germany’s advantage to 3-1.
The second half was even more dominant. Only 69 seconds after the restart, Jamal Musiala found the net to make it 4-1. Germany’s relentless attack continued as World Cup debutant Nathaniel Brown scored a fine goal to increase the lead to 5-1.
Shortly afterward, Deniz Undav added Germany’s sixth goal, leaving Curaçao’s defense overwhelmed. Havertz then completed the rout with Germany’s seventh goal of the match, sealing a memorable victory and a historic record.
Germany’s commanding performance not only earned three valuable points but also cemented its place in World Cup history as the tournament’s most prolific scoring nation.
