Jai Shri Ram Slogans Raised During CJP Protest at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park; Police Bring Situation Under Control

Mumbai. Tension briefly erupted during a protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Shivaji Park in Dadar, Mumbai, on Friday, when a group of people wearing saffron-coloured scarves reached the protest site and began chanting “Jai Shri Ram.” Prompt intervention by the Mumbai Police prevented the situation from escalating into a major confrontation.

The protest at Shivaji Park was organised over the demand for the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Thousands of people reportedly gathered for the demonstration, which also focused on concerns surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Three Major Demands Raised at Protest

The protesters raised three key demands:

  • The resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
  • A detailed inquiry into the SIR process.
  • Repeal of the Election Commission Act, 2023.

The CJP had announced the protest despite Mumbai Police denying permission for the gathering.

‘Jai Shri Ram’ Slogans Lead to Brief Tension

During the demonstration, some people wearing saffron scarves reportedly entered the protest area and began chanting “Jai Shri Ram.” This led to a brief confrontation and tension between the two groups.

According to reports, the identities and organisational or political affiliations of the slogan-raising group have not been confirmed.

Police Separate the Two Groups

Mumbai Police personnel deployed at the venue immediately intervened and separated the two groups. Police reportedly surrounded the people raising the slogans and escorted them away from the main protest area.

The situation was brought under control following the intervention, and no major violent clash was reported. Police personnel subsequently maintained a separation between the groups and restored order at the venue.

The CJP protest was attended by thousands of young people, along with several prominent personalities. Reports identified actor Naseeruddin Shah and other public figures among those present at the demonstration.
