Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a 7-wicket defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 59th match of IPL 2026. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad admitted that the poor performance of the bowling unit was the main reason behind the team’s loss.
With this result, CSK now has 12 points from 12 matches, and the team must win both of its remaining league games to keep its playoff hopes alive.
Reflecting on the defeat, Ruturaj said, “It was not a good day for bowling in this match. The first challenge is to reach Chennai and ensure that we improve in the areas where we need to, and then adapt according to conditions in the remaining two league games.”
Despite the loss, CSK still remains in contention for the playoffs. The captain dismissed any panic regarding the points table and said the team is focused on turning things around.
“It is simple, nothing is difficult. There is nothing to worry about. We just need to ensure we have a good day, and hopefully we can change things,” he added.
Batting first at the Ekana Stadium, CSK posted 187 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. Karthik Sharma played a brilliant knock of 71 runs off 42 balls, while Shivam Dube added an unbeaten 32 off just 16 balls in the death overs.
In reply, LSG chased down the target of 188 runs comfortably in 16.4 overs with the loss of 3 wickets. Mitchell Marsh starred with a blistering 90 off 38 balls, while Josh Inglis contributed 36 runs.
CSK will play their next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 18.
