Nagoya/New Delhi. India’s campaign at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, has entered its final stage with the country holding fifth place in the medal standings. India had 16 gold, 25 silver and 35 bronze medals, for a total of 76, before the latest day’s competitions.
On Saturday morning, 17-year-old Indian archer Kumkum Mohod defeated South Korea’s Oh Ye-jin in a shoot-off to win the women’s individual recurve gold, adding another historic gold medal for India. The result came on the final day of the Games.
A day earlier, the Indian women’s hockey team created history by winning the Asian Games gold medal after a gap of 44 years. India defeated China 1-0 in the final, with Lalremsiami scoring the decisive goal. Hockey India lists the result as India’s 1-0 victory over China in the women’s gold-medal match.
China Continues to Lead Medal Table
China continues to dominate the standings, with Japan in second, South Korea third and Uzbekistan fourth. The latest available medal table places China at the top with 162 gold, 81 silver and 73 bronze medals, for a total of 316. Japan has 72 gold and 240 medals overall, while South Korea has 33 gold and 134 medals. Uzbekistan has 20 gold and 65 medals.
India’s Men’s Hockey Team to Face Malaysia
All eyes are now on the Indian men’s hockey team, which will face Malaysia in the gold-medal match at 3:30 PM IST today.
India booked its place in the final after defeating Pakistan 4-3 in a thrilling semifinal, while Malaysia beat South Korea 2-1 in the other semifinal.
India will be looking to defend its Asian Games men’s hockey title and secure another gold medal in the competition. The final will be played at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium in Japan.
