India Suffer Major Blow as Shreyanka Patil Ruled Out of Women’s T20 World Cup 2026

The Indian women’s cricket team has suffered a major setback after star spinner Shreyanka Patil was ruled out of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 due to an ankle injury.

Shreyanka sustained the injury during India’s match against the Netherlands Women’s Cricket Team on Wednesday. The spinner had to be carried off the field on a stretcher after twisting her ankle while bowling the final over of the powerplay.

The injury occurred when her ankle rolled awkwardly during her delivery stride, forcing her to leave the field immediately. She was unable to return and complete her spell.

According to reports, 24-year-old leg-spinner Prema Rawat has been named as Shreyanka’s replacement in the Indian squad for the remainder of the tournament.

Prema has represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the last two seasons of the Women’s Premier League, featuring in six matches and claiming three wickets. She also played a key role in helping Uttarakhand win a senior domestic championship with her impressive bowling performances.

India have enjoyed an excellent start to their Women’s T20 World Cup campaign. The team defeated Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team by 64 runs in their opening match before registering a dominant 95-run victory over the Netherlands.

Batting first against the Netherlands, India posted a formidable 209/5 in 20 overs. Smriti Mandhana starred with the bat, scoring 74 runs off 47 deliveries, while Shafali Verma contributed 55 runs from 38 balls.

With the ball, Shree Charani delivered a match-winning performance, taking four wickets for 19 runs. Shafali also made an impact with the ball, picking up three wickets.

India will next face the South Africa Women’s Cricket Team on Sunday as they look to continue their strong run in the tournament.
