In the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced a crushing 82-run defeat against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday. Following the loss, SRH captain Pat Cummins has been fined ₹12 lakh.
The fine was imposed due to a slow over rate maintained by the team during the match. According to an official IPL statement, “As this was the team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, Cummins has been fined ₹12 lakh.”
Earlier in the season, captains such as Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings), Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals), and Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans) had also been penalized for similar slow over-rate violations.
Talking about the match, after losing the toss, Gujarat Titans batted first and posted 168 for 5, powered by 61 runs from Sai Sudharsan and a solid 50 from Washington Sundar.
Chasing a target of 169, SRH’s batting lineup collapsed dramatically, getting bowled out for just 86 runs in 14.5 overs, resulting in a heavy 82-run defeat.
For Gujarat Titans, Kagiso Rabada starred with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 28 runs in 4 overs, while Jason Holder also claimed 3 wickets, conceding just 20 runs. Prasidh Krishna picked up 2 wickets, while Mohammed Siraj and Rashid Khan took one wicket each. Rabada was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.
Following this significant loss, SRH’s net run rate has taken a hit. However, the team still holds the third position in the standings and remains firmly in contention for the playoffs. To secure a top-two finish, SRH will need to register convincing wins in their upcoming matches.
