New Delhi:
Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu has heaped praise on Ishan Kishan for his outstanding batting प्रदर्शन in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 season. Kishan played a crucial knock of 70 runs against Chennai Super Kings in the 63rd match, guiding Sunrisers Hyderabad to a five-wicket victory.
With this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad secured their place in the playoffs. The match was played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, known for its difficult pitch conditions. Kishan adapted brilliantly, showcasing composure and skill. He also stitched together a vital 75-run partnership with Heinrich Klaasen, which proved to be the turning point of the match.
Speaking on ESPNcricinfo, Rayudu highlighted the challenges posed by the pitch, noting that the ball was gripping and turning. “I think Ishan Kishan was the one who stepped up and took responsibility. He has performed consistently well on tough pitches this season, which shows his adaptability. He is a player who can attack, but also stabilize the innings when conditions are not favorable. He is a tremendous asset,” Rayudu said.
Rayudu further elaborated on Kishan’s growth as a wicketkeeper-batsman this season. He praised his ability to find gaps, play with patience, and read the bowler’s strategy. He also pointed out that Kishan has stepped into a leadership role in the absence of Pat Cummins, demonstrating maturity and game awareness.
According to Rayudu, Kishan has evolved into a dependable player who doesn’t play reckless shots but instead carefully selects deliveries to score. “He understands where the bowlers are trying to target him and responds with calculated stroke play,” he added.
Following their victory over Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad now have 16 points from 13 matches. They are set to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their final league match on May 22.
