New Delhi.
In a major escalation during the ongoing Budget Session, eight opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) were suspended from the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. The action was taken following allegations of “gross misconduct” and creating a ruckus during the parliamentary debate.
Why Were the MPs Suspended?
The presiding officer, Dilip Saikia, announced the names of the MPs, stating that their behavior was detrimental to the dignity of the House. According to the Chair, the suspended members:
Disrupted Proceedings: Repeatedly entered the Well of the House.
Disrespected the Chair: Allegedly threw papers toward the Speaker’s pedestal.
Obstructed Debate: Created a continuous uproar that prevented the Budget discussion from moving forward.
Names of the Suspended MPs
Following the announcement by the Chair, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju moved the motion for suspension, naming the following eight members:
Manickam Tagore
Amarinder Singh Raja Warring
Gurjeet सिंह Aujla
Hibi Eden
Prashant Padole
Kiran Kumar Reddy
S. Venkatesan
Dean Kuriakose
House Adjourned Amid Chaos
The suspension triggered intense protests from the opposition benches, leading to multiple adjournments throughout the day. Despite efforts to restore order, the shouting and sloganeering continued, forcing the Lok Sabha to be adjourned until Wednesday morning.
Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasized that the action was necessary to maintain parliamentary discipline and ensure the smooth functioning of the Budget Session.
