Ayurveda highlights several powerful medicinal plants and flowers that have been used for centuries to treat various ailments. One such highly beneficial yet commonly overlooked plant is the Sadabahar. True to its name, every part of this beautiful plant—from its leaves to its flowers—is rich in medicinal properties, though many remain unaware of its proper usage.
Despite its simple appearance, Sadabahar holds significant importance in Ayurveda, particularly for blood purification, skin health, and metabolism. According to Ayurvedic principles, any herb becomes effective medicine only when used in the right form, quantity, and method. The plant has a bitter taste and is considered one of the easiest natural remedies for blood purification. Consuming its flowers helps reduce blood impurities, which in turn can prevent many physical ailments.
In Ayurveda, Sadabahar is believed to balance Kapha and Pitta doshas. When used correctly, it can help maintain overall bodily equilibrium. A paste made from its leaves combined with turmeric can aid in faster healing of minor wounds. This mixture helps reduce swelling and redness when applied externally, though it is recommended only for small wounds, while serious or infected wounds require medical consultation.
For women experiencing irregular menstruation, Sadabahar offers a natural alternative. Boiling its leaves in water and consuming the extract is believed to strengthen the uterus and help regulate hormones. It may also help control excessive bleeding during menstrual cycles.
Nosebleeds, which are common during hot summer months, can also be managed using this plant. Applying drops of juice extracted from Sadabahar flowers along with pomegranate flowers into the nostrils may provide relief, as both have cooling properties and help stop bleeding. Additionally, in cases of insect or wasp stings, applying a paste of Sadabahar leaves on the affected area can reduce pain and swelling.
