Kotdwar (Pauri).
A dispute that originated over the name of a clothing store on Patel Marg in Kotdwar, Uttarakhand, has intensified over the past few days. What began as a local disagreement involving alleged misbehavior and protests has now escalated into a significant police investigation, multiple FIRs, and strict administrative action.
Clash Between Two Factions Leads to Legal Action
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Pauri district, Sarvesh Panwar, the roots of the matter trace back to an incident on January 26. Following complaints from both sides, the police have registered separate cases. Based on a complaint filed by Kamal Pal, an FIR has been lodged against Deepak Kumar alias Akki (Mohammad Deepak), Vijay Rawat, and others under sections 115(2), 191(1), 351(2), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police Crackdown on Mob Violence
The situation took a turn for the worse on January 31, when a large crowd gathered and allegedly attempted to disturb the communal harmony of the area. Taking a tough stance, the police have registered a separate FIR against 30 to 40 unidentified individuals. In this particular case, the police department itself is the complainant.
Surveillance and Investigation Underway
SSP Sarvesh Panwar stated that the investigation has been fast-tracked. Authorities have collected video footage from the scene to identify those involved in the unrest. “We are in the process of identifying the miscreants through digital evidence. Anyone found guilty of breaking the law will be questioned and dealt with strictly,” said the SSP.
While the situation in Kotdwar is currently reported to be under control, the police and local administration remain on high alert, maintaining a constant vigil on the Patel Marg area to prevent any further escalation.
