Varun Dhawan Recalls His First Meeting with Sara Ali Khan

Mumbai,

Actor Varun Dhawan once shared a humorous story about his first meeting with Sara Ali Khan, revealing that she was around 15 years old when they first crossed paths. He narrated the incident during the promotion of their film Coolie No. 1 on The Kapil Sharma Show in 2020.

During the conversation, Varun recalled spotting Sara during her teenage years and described their unusual first encounter. Years later, the two would go on to work together for the first time in Coolie No. 1.

Sharing the memory, Varun said, “My film Student of the Year had already been released, and I had gone to the gym. There was a girl wearing glasses, walking around while talking on the phone. I was entering the elevator, and she was coming out. Suddenly, she turned around and came back into the elevator. She kept staring at me while laughing and talking on the phone. I had no idea what she was trying to do.”

Varun further recalled wondering who Sara was talking to because mobile networks usually do not work inside elevators. After he stepped out of the elevator, he noticed that she quietly started following him.

When host Kapil Sharma asked Sara whom she was speaking to on the phone, she admitted that she was simply pretending to be busy while following Varun and needed something to do at that moment.

Talking about Coolie No. 1, the film was directed by David Dhawan and produced by Vashu Bhagnani under the banner of Pooja Entertainment.

The movie was a reboot of David Dhawan’s 1995 comedy of the same name, which starred Govinda and Karisma Kapoor. Interestingly, the original film itself was a remake of the 1993 Tamil drama Chinna Mapillai.

Coolie No. 1 marked the first on-screen collaboration between Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan. Since then, the duo has not worked together on any other project.

Recently, Varun Dhawan was seen in another David Dhawan directorial, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, alongside leading actresses Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde.

Reports suggest that the film could be David Dhawan’s final directorial venture before retirement. The movie was released on June 5 this year.
