Chia seeds are often described as a nutritional powerhouse. These tiny black seeds are considered highly effective in supporting heart health and may also help in managing rising body weight.
Rich in fiber, omega-3 fatty acids and protein, chia seeds not only aid in weight management but also improve digestion while helping regulate blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
Recommended for Heart Health
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, chia seeds are a natural remedy beneficial for heart health. The ministry highlights that these small black seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, particularly alpha-linolenic acid (ALA).
Omega-3 fatty acids help increase good cholesterol (HDL) and reduce bad cholesterol (LDL), lowering the risk of arterial blockage and supporting overall cardiovascular health.
Experts say that regular consumption of chia seeds can help maintain balanced cholesterol levels, thereby reducing the risk of serious conditions such as heart attack and stroke. They are also known to help stabilize blood pressure.
Chia seeds contain potassium, magnesium and fiber, which assist in relaxing blood vessels. As a result, high blood pressure can remain under control, reducing strain on the heart.
How Chia Seeds Help With Weight Control
The high fiber content in chia seeds plays a crucial role in weight management. When soaked in water, the seeds absorb liquid and form a gel-like texture. This gel helps you feel full for longer, reducing overeating and unnecessary snacking.
In addition to fiber, chia seeds provide protein, calcium, iron and antioxidants, all of which contribute to overall health and metabolic balance.
Easy to Add to Your Diet
Health experts suggest that consuming just 1 to 2 teaspoons of chia seeds daily can be beneficial for heart health and weight control.
They can be soaked overnight in water and consumed in the morning. Alternatively, they can be mixed with yogurt, salads, porridge, oats or fruits for easy incorporation into daily meals.
Regular intake may improve heart health, help control cholesterol and blood pressure, and support overall well-being.
