Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on Thursday to discuss a range of bilateral and global issues. During the conversation, Prime Minister Modi conveyed Eid greetings and expressed India’s deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East, particularly attacks targeting energy infrastructure.
Strong Condemnation of Attacks on Energy Facilities
The Prime Minister strongly condemned the recent attacks on energy infrastructure in the region. In a post on the social media platform X, Modi stated that India stands in solidarity with Qatar during this challenging time.
He emphasized that attacks on energy facilities pose a serious threat to global supply chains and economic stability, adding that safeguarding critical energy infrastructure is essential for maintaining international energy security.
Focus on Maritime Security and Trade Routes
The issue of the Strait of Hormuz was a key topic of discussion during the call. Prime Minister Modi stressed the importance of ensuring the safe and uninterrupted movement of ships through the strategic waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes, and any disruption there could significantly affect global energy markets, including India’s energy security.
Eid Greetings and Indian Diaspora in Qatar
Along with strategic discussions, the conversation also touched upon humanitarian and cultural aspects. Prime Minister Modi extended warm greetings on Eid al-Fitr to the Emir and the people of Qatar.
He also thanked the Qatari leadership for its continued support and welfare measures for the Indian community living in Qatar, acknowledging the importance of the Indian diaspora in strengthening bilateral ties.
Strengthening India’s Energy Diplomacy
Experts believe that the conversation reflects India’s broader energy diplomacy strategy in the Gulf region. By maintaining close coordination with energy-producing nations like Qatar, India aims to ensure stable energy supplies and safeguard global trade routes.
