Co-hosts United States kicked off their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign with an impressive 4-1 victory over Paraguay, delivering a commanding performance in front of their home fans.
The United States took control of the match from the very beginning and opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Paraguay’s Damian Bobadilla inadvertently put the ball into his own net while attempting to clear a dangerous cross, giving the hosts an early 1-0 lead.
The Americans continued to dominate possession and attacking play, and striker Folarin Balogun doubled the lead in the 31st minute with a clinical finish. Balogun struck again just before halftime, completing his brace and sending the United States into the break with a comfortable 3-0 advantage.
Paraguay attempted a comeback in the second half and managed to pull one goal back in the 73rd minute through substitute Mauricio. However, the visitors struggled to create further chances against a disciplined American side.
As Paraguay pushed forward in search of another goal, the United States sealed the result deep into stoppage time when Giovanni Reyna found the back of the net to make it 4-1 and complete a memorable opening-night victory.
Balogun’s outstanding two-goal performance was one of the highlights of the match, helping the United States register one of its most impressive World Cup victories. The result gives the co-hosts a perfect start to the tournament and plenty of confidence heading into their upcoming group-stage fixtures.
