New Delhi: Today, Kangana Ranaut is regarded as one of the most talented actresses in Bollywood, known for delivering several memorable performances throughout her career. Among them, her portrayal of Shonali Gujral in Fashion remains one of the most acclaimed.
In the film, Kangana played a successful fashion model whose life spirals downward due to drug addiction. Her performance received widespread praise from both audiences and critics and ultimately became a turning point in her career.
A past interview of the actress from Anupam Kher’s television show The Anupam Kher Show – Kucch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai has recently resurfaced online, drawing attention once again.
Recalling a challenging phase in her professional journey, Kangana said that despite appearing in successful films such as Gangster and Woh Lamhe, her career was not progressing as she had hoped.
“Even after Gangster and Woh Lamhe, my career was not gaining the momentum I expected. I felt that my career was gradually declining, and I needed a major opportunity to prove myself,” she said.
Kangana described Fashion as a crucial opportunity but admitted that she was under immense pressure.
“For me, Fashion was a big opportunity, but I was afraid that if I failed to perform well, the road ahead would become even more difficult. I left no stone unturned in preparing for the role and dedicated myself completely to becoming the character,” she recalled.
The actress revealed that she underwent extensive preparation to portray a professional model convincingly. She practiced walking in high heels even at home to perfect a model’s posture and movement. She also rehearsed scenes involving smoking, researched substance abuse, and met individuals who had struggled with cocaine addiction to better understand the psychological aspects of her character.
“I constantly felt that this might be the last major opportunity of my career. That thought kept motivating me to work harder. I played the role with complete dedication and honesty, and the results were extremely rewarding,” Kangana said.
Following the film’s release, her performance became one of the most talked-about aspects of the movie. Critics and audiences alike praised her portrayal of Shonali Gujral, and she went on to win the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.
The film also starred Priyanka Chopra in the lead role. Priyanka’s performance was equally appreciated, earning her several accolades, including the award for Best Actress.
Over the years, Fashion has remained one of the most significant films in Kangana Ranaut’s career, helping establish her as a powerhouse performer in Indian cinema.
