Scotland have a golden opportunity to create history on Saturday when they take on Morocco in a crucial FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C encounter at Boston Stadium.
A victory over Morocco would see Scotland reach the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time in their history.
Scotland captain Andy Robertson said the team is fully prepared for the challenge and is embracing the occasion with confidence. Scotland began their World Cup campaign on a positive note with a 1-0 victory over Haiti and currently sit at the top of Group C.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Robertson said the players are ready to deal with the pressure and are focused on making history.
“We want to become the first Scottish team to reach the knockout stage of a World Cup. It is a huge opportunity for us. We know we are up against one of the best teams in the world, but we have complete faith in our ability,” Robertson said.
The skipper added that Scotland are capable of making life difficult for any opponent and believes the team can script history if the players perform to their full potential.
However, Scotland face a tough challenge against Morocco, who are ranked sixth in the FIFA world rankings, 31 places above Scotland. Morocco impressed the football world by reaching the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and have emerged as one of Africa’s strongest teams in recent years.
Praising the opposition, Robertson said Morocco possess quality players in every department and have the ability to change the course of a match at any moment.
Despite the challenge, the Scotland captain expressed confidence in his side’s ability to rise to the occasion.
“Even during the qualifying campaign, many people doubted us, but we consistently performed well and earned our place here. Now our entire focus is on our own game. Both teams want to win, but we hope Scotland will be the team smiling at the final whistle,” he said.
