IPL 2026 : Rutherford Blazing Knock Goes in Vain as RCB Defeat MI by 18 Runs

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) delivered an impressive performance to defeat Mumbai Indians (MI) by 18 runs in the 20th match of IPL 2026. Chasing a massive target of 241 runs, MI managed to score 222/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Mumbai Indians got off to a solid start with Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma looking in good rhythm. However, Rohit had to retire hurt after scoring 19 runs due to a hamstring issue and did not return to bat. Rickelton contributed 37 runs off 22 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes. Captain Suryakumar Yadav failed to capitalize on the start and was dismissed for 33 off 22 balls. Tilak Varma had a disappointing outing, scoring just one run.

Hardik Pandya played some aggressive shots during his 40-run knock off 22 balls, which included six fours and a six, before being dismissed by Jacob Duffy. Naman Dhir scored just one run. Sherfane Rutherford delivered a sensational unbeaten knock of 71 runs off just 31 balls, smashing nine sixes and a four, but his effort was not enough to secure a win for MI. Mitchell Santner remained unbeaten on 8. For RCB, Suyash Sharma picked up two wickets, while Duffy claimed one.

Earlier, after losing the toss, RCB posted a formidable total of 240/4 in 20 overs. Phil Salt and Virat Kohli gave the team a flying start, adding 120 runs for the opening wicket. Kohli scored 50 runs off 38 balls, while Salt played a शानदार innings of 78 off 36 balls, hitting six fours and six sixes. Captain Rajat Patidar continued the momentum with a quickfire 53 off 20 balls.

In the death overs, Tim David remained unbeaten on 34 off 16 balls, while Jitesh Sharma scored 10 runs. For MI, Trent Boult, Hardik Pandya, Santner, and Shardul Thakur picked up one wicket each.

This marks RCB’s third win of the season, while MI suffered their third defeat in IPL 2026.
