IPL 2026 : Vaibhav Suryavanshi Close to Breaking Chris Gayle 14-Year-Old Six-Hitting Record

Rising teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi is on the verge of creating history in Indian Premier League by challenging one of the most iconic batting records held by legendary West Indies batter Chris Gayle.

The 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals batter has taken IPL 2026 by storm with his fearless and explosive batting style. Vaibhav is now just seven sixes away from surpassing Chris Gayle’s long-standing record for the most sixes in a single IPL season.

Gayle, famously known as the “Universe Boss,” smashed 59 sixes during the 2012 IPL season — a record that has remained untouched for 14 years. The Caribbean superstar became one of the biggest icons in T20 cricket largely because of his dominance in the IPL, where he earned nicknames like “Sixer King” and “Universe Boss.”

So far in IPL 2026, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has hammered 53 sixes in just 13 innings from 13 matches. With at least one league-stage match still remaining and Rajasthan Royals also qualifying for the playoffs, the young batter will get more opportunities to chase the historic milestone.

Known for his aggressive intent, Vaibhav has relied heavily on six-hitting rather than accumulating singles and doubles. Given his current form, one big innings could be enough for him to rewrite IPL history.

The teenage star has already achieved another major milestone by becoming the Indian batter with the most sixes in a single IPL season.

Meanwhile, the third spot on the all-time list belongs to Andre Russell, who smashed 52 sixes for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2019. Chris Gayle appears again in fourth place with 51 sixes in the 2013 season, while Jos Buttler occupies fifth place after hitting 45 sixes in IPL 2022.

With his fearless approach and remarkable consistency at such a young age, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is rapidly emerging as one of the brightest stars in world cricket.
