Fifteen-year-old actor Owen Cooper, who rose to fame with Netflix’s mini-series Adolescence, has created history by becoming the youngest actor ever to win an Emmy Award.
Cooper received the honor for Lead Actor in a Drama Series, marking the first time such recognition has been awarded to someone at his age.
After accepting the Emmy, Cooper expressed his disbelief:
“When I started drama classes, I never imagined I would make it to America—let alone stand here at the Emmys. Three years ago, I was nobody, and today I’m here. Step out of your comfort zone—who cares if you feel a little embarrassed?”
Speaking to the press later, Cooper said the award holds immense significance for him.
The Netflix series Adolescence consists of four episodes and also stars Stephen Graham. Notably, every scene in the series was filmed in a single continuous shot, under the direction of Philip Barantini.
