National Commission for Women reprimands lyricist-director of Sarke Chunar Teri, Nora and Sanjay Dutt given final chance

New Delhi

The controversy surrounding the song Sarke Chunar Teri featuring Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi continues to escalate. The National Commission for Women has now reprimanded individuals associated with the film and the song.

The Commission stated that such songs are against the dignity of women and that no one has the right to release obscene content under the guise of creativity.

On Monday, lyricist Rakeeb Alam, director Prem, representatives of KVN Productions—Gautam KM and Supreeth—appeared before the Commission regarding the issue. However, Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi did not appear despite being summoned, citing different reasons.

The hearing was chaired by Commission Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, who strongly criticized the makers, stating, “This is against the dignity of women, and harming women’s dignity cannot be justified in the name of creativity.”

The makers associated with the film and the song admitted their mistake and assured that such an incident would not be repeated. They also claimed that since the song was in Kannada, they were not fully aware of its exact meaning. All those present submitted a written apology to the Commission and acknowledged that the song had a negative impact on society. They further committed to working on women empowerment initiatives over the next three months and submitting a report to the Commission.

Actress Nora Fatehi and actor Sanjay Dutt did not appear before the Commission. Nora’s lawyer represented her, but the Commission refused to hear the plea, stating that she must appear in person. Meanwhile, Sanjay Dutt is reportedly out of the country for shooting commitments. The Commission has given Nora a final opportunity to appear on April 27, while Sanjay Dutt has been directed to appear on April 8.

It is worth noting that the controversial song Sarke Chunar Teri from the film KD The Devil has been removed from all social media platforms. Nora Fatehi has already issued an apology via social media and clarified that she no longer has any association with the film or the song and will not be part of its promotions.
