Bhuvneshwar Kumar has moved to the joint second position among bowlers with the most IPL seasons featuring 20 or more wickets. Representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Mumbai Indians on Sunday, Bhuvneshwar delivered an impressive spell of 4 wickets for 23 runs. With this performance, he has now taken 21 wickets in 11 matches this season.
This marks the fourth time Bhuvneshwar Kumar has claimed 20 or more wickets in an IPL season. He previously achieved the milestone in 2014, 2016, and 2017. With this feat, the experienced right-arm pacer has equaled the records of Lasith Malinga, who achieved it in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015, and Jasprit Bumrah, who accomplished the feat in 2017, 2020, 2021, and 2024.
The record for the most IPL seasons with 20 or more wickets is currently held by Yuzvendra Chahal, who reached the milestone in 2015, 2016, 2020, 2022, and 2023.
The 36-year-old Bhuvneshwar Kumar has played 201 IPL matches so far and has taken 219 wickets at an average of 26.17. He has also recorded two five-wicket hauls during his IPL career.
In the match being played at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, Mumbai Indians posted 166 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. The team lost three early wickets for just 28 runs before Naman Dhir and Tilak Varma stabilized the innings with an 82-run partnership for the fourth wicket off 57 balls, helping the side reach a competitive total.
Apart from them, Raj Bawa contributed 16 runs, while Will Jacks added 10 runs to the scoreboard.
Naman Dhir scored 47 runs off 32 balls, including seven boundaries, while Tilak Varma played a crucial innings of 57 runs from 42 deliveries, hitting two sixes and three fours.
For RCB, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the standout bowler with four wickets. Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Salam Dar, and Romario Shepherd picked up one wicket each.
