Mumbai, March 6: England’s rising star Jacob Bethell created a unique record in international cricket by becoming the first batter to score his first century in all three formats—Test, ODI and T20—at the international level.
The historic milestone came during the second semifinal of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup played at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where England cricket team faced India national cricket team.
Although England lost the match by 7 runs and were knocked out of the tournament, Bethell’s explosive innings won admiration from cricket fans around the world.
Explosive Century in T20 World Cup Semifinal
Bethell smashed 105 runs off just 48 balls, registering the first T20 century of his career. With this knock, he achieved an unprecedented feat—scoring his maiden hundreds in First-Class, List A, and T20 formats exclusively in international cricket.
Typically, cricketers score their first centuries in domestic competitions before reaching international milestones. However, Bethell chose the global stage for all three of his maiden hundreds, making the achievement historically unique.
Rapid Rise in International Cricket
Bethell made his domestic debut in June 2021 and quickly caught the attention of the England and Wales Cricket Board. He was handed his international debut in September 2024, reflecting the board’s confidence in his talent.
So far in his international career, Bethell has delivered impressive performances across formats:
Tests: 476 runs in 6 matches, including 1 century and 3 half-centuries, along with 4 wickets
ODIs: 603 runs in 21 matches with 1 century and 5 fifties, plus 8 wickets
T20Is: 697 runs in 31 matches including 1 century and 3 fifties, and 8 wickets
His all-round abilities and consistent performances have strengthened his reputation as one of the future pillars of England cricket.
