T20 World Cup : If Bumrah Wasn’t There, I Wouldn’t Be Here, Says Sanju Samson After India’s Semifinal Win

New Delhi,

Sanju Samson credited teammate Jasprit Bumrah for India’s thrilling victory over England national cricket team in the semifinal of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Samson, who smashed a blistering 89-run innings, was named Player of the Match. However, during the post-match presentation he humbly said the award truly belonged to Bumrah.

“This award should go to Bumrah. If he wasn’t there, I wouldn’t be standing here,” Samson said, praising the fast bowler’s decisive spell.

The win sent the India national cricket team into the tournament final.

Bumrah’s Crucial 18th Over Turns the Game

The semifinal turned into a high-scoring thriller, with both teams combining for 499 runs. India posted a massive 253-run target for England.

England’s chase looked promising with Jacob Bethell leading the charge, scoring 94 runs and keeping his team in the hunt. With 45 runs required from the last three overs, England still had hope.

That’s when Bumrah delivered the decisive moment. In the 18th over, he conceded only six runs and dismissed Harry Brook, shifting the momentum firmly towards India.

India captain Suryakumar Yadav later described Bumrah’s spell as a “special performance” that changed the course of the match.

Concerns for India Ahead of the Final

Despite the victory, India faces several concerns before the final against New Zealand national cricket team on March 8.

Varun Chakravarthy’s Form: Varun Chakravarthy conceded 64 runs in four overs in the semifinal and has leaked 151 runs in the last three matches.

Sixth Bowling Option: Shivam Dube gave away 22 runs in the final over, raising concerns about India’s additional bowling option.

Abhishek Sharma’s Struggles: Opener Abhishek Sharma continues to struggle, scoring just 89 runs in seven innings in the tournament.

Fielding Shows Improvement

India’s fielding, which had previously seen 13 dropped catches in the tournament, improved significantly in the semifinal. A stunning catch by Axar Patel to dismiss Harry Brook proved to be a crucial turning point.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav credited the improvement to fielding coach T Dilip.
